journal 091022

okay, so I should have been doing this since Day One, but I don’t know, it was writing. it kind of seemed silly for me to write about writing, but I’m over it now. Finally. Here’s what’s happened so far…

SCRIPT

one of the most important parts, right? And actually, I’ve been working on it a lot. up to a Second Draft. Got my scenes up on a make-shift board on the wall. and as always, have people waiting for me to send it them for their thoughts. now, i just need to deliver a decent script.

don’t forget the “silent” version of the script!

GOAL: 3rd Distinct Draft done by Saturday, 091024. send it out and wait for feedback. “silent” version of script. try to lock script by Friday, 091030 at the latest in order to have a couple days to break it down, then another couple days for props and necessary set dressings.

ACTORS

got Kyle Encinas and Joshua Dick to play the two main characters. Kyle is natural, and as close to a professional as I’ve seen when working. he was pretty funny even in a little improv exercise in class once, and I like his sensibilities. I haven’t talked to Josh much, but he works well with Kyle, so that can’t hurt.

GOAL: shooting for one or two rehearsals. maybe one on Sunday 091101, then one during that week or something? this is going to be tough, but maybe it’s good that I got two guys who will work well together and seem to pretty much have confidence in their abilities.

LOCATION

Rich and John’s apartment. at this point, need to measure and get a working groundplan together. that’ll be this weekend. also have to work out the orientation of the living room, the times of day, orientation of both bedrooms, what’s on each wall, and what kinds of things are scattered around. we have to figure out lighting as well.

another important issue is shooting outside. how will we get power to the lights? do we need lights outside? measure the lighting at night. look for outlets, if not, how can we get power from rich’s house out to the front? extensions out the balcony around the side of the building?

also need to check with the security guard and management company.

GOAL: groundplan complete by 091025. figure out a groundplan. do we need lights this weekend?

EQUIPMENT

got Equipment Room stuff reserved for Friday, 091106 – Monday, 091109.

GOAL: make a comprehensive list and double check it down to the smallest thing. create a separate entry for it to go over it again.

Sunday, Nov. 8 – Shooting pick ups, details, and any other catch-up.

OTHER CONSIDERATIONS

movie poster – to clarify ideas, for final DVD product; food service; transportation; other necessary equipment…; keep looking at archive footage
